Buraydah Creative City is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Gastronomy since 2021

The inclusion of the Creative City of Buraydah in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network comes as confirmation of the great support it enjoys from our wise government under the leadership of my Lord, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Crown Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister - may God protect them. God - like all cities in the Kingdom, the city of Buraydah received this international recognition by joining the UNESCO global network, being one of the cities that identified creativity as a strategic factor in its sustainable urban development, and adopting creativity in Gastronomy as a major element in its plans, and the Kingdom's ambitious 2030 vision, which was based on Three main axes (a vibrant society, a prosperous economy, and an ambitious nation) to identify the main foundations that have strengthened the creative aspects of the city, By promoting sustainable community development, preserving, reviving and developing its cultural heritage, and building a vibrant, productive society strengthened by programs to support productive families and attract youth to self-employment and entrepreneurship. Business, empowering women, organizing specific festivals such as the Kleja International Festival and the Buraydah International Dates Carnival, and what it did in activating the benefit of its agricultural, industrial and commercial resources, and projects to raise the quality of life, and Environmental commitment and its standards and requirements, and all of this enhanced cooperation and integration between all its agencies in the public, private sectors and society. What does it mean for Buraydah to be a creative city?

In 2021, the city of Buraydah was classified as a creative city in Gastronomy by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and it joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network to become the first Gulf city and the second Arab city and the Middle East to obtain this classification, as it is one of the cities that developed Creativity and sustainability are a key element in its sustainable development plans, and due to its social, economic and cultural development elements, it is based on the three axes of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 (a vibrant society, a prosperous economy, and an ambitious nation).

What is the UNESCO network?

The UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) is a program of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. It is a major UNESCO program aimed at the local implementation of the sustainable development goals of Vision 2030 and the new program for cities and this network includes seven fields, (crafts and folk arts, media arts, films, design, gastronomy, literature and music), and currently includes more than 300 A creative city around the world, divided into these seven fields. These cities work together to achieve a common goal based on placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their urban development plans at the local level, and joint cooperation at the international level.
